Winter Report from Leh

The Ladakh Animal Care Society in association with Vets Beyond Borders and Fondation Brigitte Bardot has sterilised over 1500 street dogs in the Leh region in the summers of 2006/07. For the first time the LACS animal shelter at Saboo has been open over the winter months with the aim of housing and feeding starving or injured street dogs. Keeping the shelter open over winter ensures a continuity of care for the street dogs.

Vets Beyond Borders is proud to be supporting our Indonesian veterinary colleagues in beautiful Bali. VBB has provided funding to ensure that the locally run veterinary organisation Yudisthira can continue its amazing work with the Bali street dogs and community dogs. Every day the vets are out working tirelessly to make an amazing difference to the street dogs across Bali.

The Traveling Vet

Dr. Westman volunteered for Vets Beyond Borders in Sikkim during 2007, he aims to combine his media skills and his passion for improving human health and animal welfare in a documentary titled "The Travelling Vet".

The Travelling Vet visits the northeastern Indian Himalayas to investigate what is being done to address the problem of rabies.

Long Term VBB Volunteer In Sikkim

Perth veterinarian Dr Kirsty Officer is currently volunteering with the S.A.R.A.H. programme in Sikkim for the 3rd time. Kirsty has been involved in the education campaign in schools and has been instrumental in training the local vets in both routine operations and a variety of surgical techniques. These include amputations, inguinal hernias, tumour removals, sialocoele correction, fracture and wound management and even a goat caesarean.
